Geolink developed the web platform for They: Live, with custom PHP administration for managing projects, artists, artworks, open calls, news and publications.
About the project
They: Live – Student lives revealed through context-based art practices was the first Creative Europe project led by the Students’ City Cultural Center in Belgrade.
The project focused on involving students in the creation of contemporary art through social archiving tools and artist residencies within university campuses.
Its main objective was to develop an interdisciplinary methodology using digital archives as a resource for contextual and participatory art practices.
The project was implemented in an international environment together with partner organizations from Croatia, Montenegro and Spain.
Challenge
The project included a wide range of interconnected content – art projects, artists, activities, open calls, news, publications and other materials created throughout its implementation.
The main challenge was to develop a clear digital platform capable of presenting a complex international art project while providing meaningful connections between artists, projects and different types of content.
As the project continuously generated new material, the platform also required an administration system that allowed editors to independently publish and update content without developer intervention.
Our solution
Geolink developed a custom PHP/MySQL web platform with an administration system tailored to the specific content structure of They: Live.
The website was organized to allow visitors to explore the project, artworks and participating artists, while also following open calls, news, publications and other activities.
Special attention was given to the visual presentation of artistic projects and to connecting related content, creating an accessible digital archive of the project.
The administration system enabled the Students’ City Cultural Center team to independently manage and continuously expand the platform throughout the international project.
Scope & features
Design & technology
The platform was developed using PHP and MySQL, with a custom administration system built according to the specific requirements of the project.
The database structure supported different content types and relationships between projects, artists, news, open calls and publications.
This architecture allowed the web platform to grow together with the project and enabled new content to be added efficiently through the administration interface.
The result was a central digital platform for They: Live, bringing together information about the project, artists, artworks, activities and publications.
The custom administration system enabled the project team to independently maintain and continuously update the content, while the public website provided a clear presentation for an international audience.
The project demonstrates how a custom web platform can support cultural and artistic programs, digital archiving and the presentation of a complex international collaborative project.
